Sorry for the delay in this post, but I have been very busy since Ian has arrived. Ian Richard Burnham was born on June 11 at 7:36pm weighing 6lbs 15oz and measuring 22 in. I was told to come to the hospital on June 10 in the evening to start the induction process. It was weird as I was just going about my day on Wednesday as normal. I even went and got a manicure and pedicure so my toes would look nice during labor. 🙂 I went to the hospital around 5pm on Wed. and the night was pretty easy. They even let me have McDonalds for dinner while I was there waiting for the contractions to start. On Wed. evening they put some kind of gel in me to start getting my cervix ready, but I only felt minor contractions on Wed. night. Thursday morning, they started me on a pitocin drip and that is what got my contractions starting. About an hour after the pitocin I asked for the epidural and it was a breeze after that. The epidural really hurt, but it was so worth it. I couldn’t feel any contractions after the epidural.
Later in the afternoon the doctor came in and broke my water. He kept checking on me hourly and stated Ian will be born between 10pm and 12am, since I wasn’t dilating very fast. Around 6pm I complained to the nurse that I was feeling a lot of pressure, so she checked my cervix and was very suprised that I was already dilated to 10cm. She called the doctor who came shortly after and around 7:30pm Ian was born. I only had to push for about 30 minutes before he came out. I have to say, the whole labor and delivery process was pretty painless for me. I was very surprised, but it was not that bad at all. Epidural is definitely the way to go!
Ian and mommy are doing very well. Ian is absolutely perfect. He is sleeping about three hours at a time and then I feed him and he sleeps another three hours or so. He also doesn’t cry much at all. He is the best and I am very blessed!
