Ian is here!

Sorry for the delay in this post, but I have been very busy since Ian has arrived. Ian Richard Burnham was born on June 11 at 7:36pm weighing 6lbs 15oz and measuring 22 in.  I was told to come to the hospital on June 10 in the evening to start the induction process. It was weird as I was just going about my day on Wednesday as normal. I even went and got a manicure and pedicure so my toes would look nice during labor. 🙂  I went to the hospital around 5pm on Wed. and the night was pretty easy. They even let me have McDonalds for dinner while I was there waiting for the contractions to start. On Wed. evening they put some kind of gel in me to start getting my cervix ready, but I only felt minor contractions on Wed. night. Thursday morning, they started me on a pitocin drip and that is what got my contractions starting. About an hour after the pitocin I asked for the epidural and it was a breeze after that. The epidural really hurt, but it was so worth it. I couldn’t feel any contractions after the epidural.

Later in the afternoon the doctor came in and broke my water. He kept checking on me hourly and stated Ian will be born between  10pm and 12am, since I wasn’t dilating very fast. Around 6pm I complained to the nurse that I was feeling a lot of pressure, so she checked my cervix and was very suprised that I was already dilated to 10cm. She called the doctor who came shortly after and around 7:30pm Ian was born. I only had to push for about 30 minutes before he came out. I have to say, the whole labor and delivery process was pretty painless for me. I was very surprised, but it was not that bad at all. Epidural is definitely the way to go!

Ian and mommy are doing very well. Ian is absolutely perfect. He is sleeping about three hours at a time and then I feed him and he sleeps another three hours or so. He also doesn’t cry much at all. He is the best and I am very blessed!

Ian’s coming soon!

I had my doctor apt. today on my due date. The doctor checked my cervix and I am only dilated about 1cm and not anywhere near where he wants me to be at this point. So the doctor has decided to induce me this week. I am supposed to go into the hospital on wed. evening and then he said I should have Ian sometime on Thursday. I can’t even begin to describe the mix of emotions I am feeling. I am extremely excited, but also a bit nervous now. The doctor said the hospital will start calling patients around 4pm and based on bed availability, I could get called any time  on Wed. between 4pm and 11pm to come into the hospital to start the induction. Hopefully, it will be sooner, as I will probably be a bundle of nerves on Wed. Wow, I can’t believe as of Thursday I am going to be a mom. God has truly blessed me with this little miracle and I am so thankful!

Keep us in your prayers!

I had my 39 week check up this morning. Everything is fine, but it appears Ian is taking his time making his arrival. I haven’t even started dialating yet, so it may be a while. I’m just happy that I am done with work, so now I can just rest and relax. I’m doing some major nesting now, and making sure everything is ready for Ian. I guess I just need to enjoy this time that I have now to get things done and rest.

38 weeks!

Wow, Ian is almost here. My last doctor’s apt was a couple days ago and the doctor said, “I will see you next week, or maybe sooner.” I am definitely ready, he can come at any time now. I am starting to get the miserable feeling of not sleeping well, and being very uncomfortable. I’ve also been getting a lot more braxton hicks contractions and a lot of back pain. I finished my last day of work today, now I can just rest and prepare for Ian’s arrival. I’m going to try and get as much sleep as possible, as I know I won’t be getting it soon. My next doctor’s apt is Monday and my doctor will then be starting to check my cervix, so I’ll have a better idea of when he is coming. I can’t believe I have made it through 38 weeks already, the time is really flying by.

Ian is moving all over and is already in position to make his entry into this world. I can’t believe how fast these months have gone. I am enjoying these last few weeks and trying to get as much rest as possible, so I’m ready for Ian.

Last weekend we had our last baby class: breastfeeding. It was very informative and practical. I’m really going to do my best with breastfeeding, but have heard what difficult it can be.

My last dr. visit was a couple days ago. I was worried something may have been wrong, as I hadn’t felt Ian as much as I usually do. My doctor did a stress test and everything looked great. He also checked my cervix, but stated that it is not dilated yet.

My co-workers surprised me with a shower last weekend. The baby shower meant so much to me and it was really nice. Lot’s of people are waiting for little Ian’s arrival. I think at this point Ted and I are as ready as we can be, so now we just wait. Ian’s room is finished and we have all the essentials that we will need right away, at least we think we do. I have to finish up this week at work and then have next week of work and then I am done; well for 12 weeks that is. I can’t wait to be done with work, as I am just so exhausted and waddling around. Maybe, the next time I write will be after Ian’s arrival…we’ll see.

Baby Shower

I had my baby shower over the weekend. I am so blessed to have great friends and family! I really enjoyed this time and Ian got lots of good stuff! The baby food game was yummy and I loved everyone guessing my belly measurements, LOL. I will add some pics from the shower below.

My doctor apt. last week was uneventful, in a good way. Ian is doing very well and being extremely active. My next apt. is May 8th and then I will be going weekly. I can’t believe Ian is almost here! I am truly blessed and I thank God daily for his blessings!

32 weeks

That was Ted that posted Ian’s room video on the blog, starring our dogs, Sierra and Nevada. Yes, it is a sports theme, Ted insisted on that, but I like it too. That is one of my main concerns is how the dogs are going to react to Ian. Hopefully it will go well. We might get a trainer for Nevada (the yellow one) as she is a mess and I’m worried she may hurt Ian. We’ll see.

Last week I had another check up, and all is well. My next doctor apt is April 22. We also had an 8 hour child birth preparation class last week. It was a little graphic for me, but I guess it’s good to know what to expect. This Saturday we have a parenting 101 class, where we will practice the essentials (changing diapers, baths)…fun stuff.

I’ve been feeling pretty good lately, just extremely exhausted! I think a lot of it has to do with my work schedule as I have to be at work by 4am, which means getting up at 2:30am. At the end of my work day, my feet look like elephant feet, they get so big! I try to keep them elevated but it is difficult at work. Eight more weeks to go!!!!

Ian’s Room

Here’s Ian’s room.

30 weeks

I can’t believe I will be 30 weeks on Monday! I’ve been trying to write a to do list as Ian’s arrival is quickly approaching. This morning we ordered the car seat/stroller. Last night we picked up the furniture. Ted is putting everything together this morning. It’s really starting to look like a baby’s room now. Thanks to my dad for all his hard work and the furniture, the nursery looks awesome!

I had another doctor’s apt. last week and everything was fine. My next apt. is April 8th. One cool thing I have noticed, is I can now see my stomach moving when Ian kicks. It’s the neatest thing! Ten more weeks, or less until the arrival of baby Ian!

28 weeks

I am just finishing up my 28th week. I can’t believe how fast time is flying by! I had a check up last week and all is well. The doctor did a test for gestational diabetes, and thank goodness, I don’t have it. However, they checked my iron level again and it has dropped even lower than the last time they checked it.  I am now taking 3 iron pills daily, as the doctor said the level really needs to come up before delivery.  My next apt. is this coming Wed. I am now on the every other week schedule.

Ian is kicking me like crazy, especially tonight after 2 cokes. 🙂

My parents are in town this weekend and my dad is doing the nursery. My dad and Ted have already removed the carpet and put down hardwood floors in the room. It looks great! We also ordered the furniture and it will be here in two weeks. Once the room is complete, I will post some pics.
